Bhopal: Notwithstanding the approaching Assembly polls, the municipal body is going slow on undertaking proposed developments projects for which it had sanctioned a good amount in its budget. With assembly polls nearing fast, work on all development projects will come to halt in coming two months or so owing to the enforcement of the model code of conduct.

While on one hand the smart city cell has begun installing cameras to monitor traffic violations, Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) is yet to initiate the process of floating tenders for CCTV cameras that it had proposed to install on vehicles used by its anti-encroachment squad.

The municipal body in its budget has earmarked an amount for installing CCTVs cameras on its vehicles engaged in clearing the encroachments. However, even after five months, the authorities have failed to even float tenders for it. Besides, the proposal for inducting extra cranes in the corporation’s anti-encroachment cell is also lying in limbo.

The civic body has yet to float tenders for the proposed development works which includes renovation of the Visarjan ghats, construction of a city museum, Guru Tegbahadur museum, underground cable project etc. The underground cable laying work at Chowk Bazar area is yet to be initiated.

A sum of Rs 6 crore has been sanctioned for undertaking construction of city museum and Guru Teg Bahadur museum, besides the part of the amount is to be utilized for developing Pari Park. All these proposed projects are yet to see the light of the day as the corporation has not even invited tenders for the same.

Of the total Rs 2.50 crore sanctioned for developing dog sterilisation center, BMC has just released Rs 1.50 crore for the project. Mohammad Sageer, leader of opposition in BMC alleged that budget was only to fool public. The civic body is short of funds and will not be able to initiate any of these projects, he claimed. However, Kamal Solanki, additional commissioner for the project said that the process for the work is underway and the work would start soon.
