A spat broke out between members of Bhagat Kranti Dal (BKD) and Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) at Bharat Mata square over Martyr’s Day on Monday. Students from Motilal Vigyan Mahavidyala (MVM) belonging to BKD took out a rally to Bharat Mata square to observe Martyr’s day. As the students reached the square, ABVP members came at the venue and took objection.
ABVP members said that holding of event by BKD on the day when national mourning was declared as a mark of respect to Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, was highly objectionable. BKD representative, Harshita Giri said that the rally was taken out after due permission from the concerned authorities and police accompanied the rally throughout the route. ABVP members couldn’t bear success of the BKD hence objected.
Giri said that they observed Martyr’s day every year on March 23 but this year due to holi the event was pre-pone to March 19. A programme will be held in MVM where family members of martyrs of Kargil will be honoured. ABVP member Abhilash Thakur said that ABVP will gherao the college on Tuesday to protest against BKD and will complain against the principal and SDM who gave permission to organize the rally.
