Bhopal: The Congress has launched a scathing attack on BJP after a book presented to the participants of a general knowledge competition described country’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru as a power-hungry person. The contest was organised by Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.

The book is titled, ‘Mere Deendayal’. Introducing Deendayal Upadhayay, the book says that he was of the strong opinion that independence could have been attained without India’s partition. However, that could not happen due to Nehru and Jinnah’s lust for power and the dirty games played by British.

The Congress has reacted strongly to the contents of the book. Leader of opposition Ajay Singh said that “even seven generations of BJP and RSS leaders cannot compare themselves with Congress leaders who had played a seminal role in India’s freedom struggle. Nehru had contributed immensely to winning freedom for the nation and he built the modern India.” Congress chief spokesperson K K Mishra said, “Those who were traitors to the cause of India’s freedom have temerity to say such things.”

3 lakh children take part

About three lakh children took part in general knowledge competition organised by BJYM. They were allowed to give answer online as well as offline. Addressing a function organised in connection with the contest held at MVM ground on Tuesday, chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that BJYM deserved appreciation. He told the children present at the function to concentrate on their studies. “Government will take care of your fees,” he added.
