BHOPAL: Social justice department is going to put up a proposal to make begging in urban areas as a crime. Under ‘Madhya Pradesh Bhikshavriti Nivaran Adhiniyam’, only Indore has been covered presently. The proposal will ban begging in all Municipal Corporation areas.
As per the Act, old age beggars will be sent to old age homes while children would be sent to ‘Balashram’. Government would also make arrangements for differently-abled persons resorting begging. The youths, who are involved in begging, will also be motivated to do some work.
Social justice department, principal secretary BK Batham said government has been consistently working to keep people away from begging. With organized gangs involved in this, strict action would be taken against those who beg and who make them beg.
