BHOPAL: A day after a murderous assault on BJP leader Subhash Raikwar, Jahangirabad police on Sunday booked six assailants on charges of attempt to murder. The incident occurred on Saturday when a dispute over fishing contract triggered a fight between Congress and BJP rival groups.
The incident had left Congress leader and municipal corporator Mohammad Sageer injured; and later in the evening four men had allegedly assaulted Raikwar. He was admitted to hospital. On Sunday, as a mark of protest, BJP workers took out a rally from Roshanpura and marched to Governor house. Agitating party workers submitted a memorandum addressed to Governor Anandiben Patel seeking action against the guilty.
Former minister Umashankar Gupta and other party workers staged a sit-in outside the hospital demanding immediate arrest of the assailants A contract of fishing at Kaliyasot dam is said to be the bone of contention between the rival groups. A number of rival parties are claiming the fishing contract. The issued had triggered a dispute between supporters of Sageet and Raikwar.
On Saturday, Sageer has sustained injury on his head when stones were pelted at him and his supporters. Kamla Nagar police had registered an FIR on Congress leader complaint. However, the incident took a political turn when Raikwar was allegedly assaulted by a few men later in the evening. He was gone for an interview when he was attacked upon. He was admitted to hospital.
