Bhopal: The 21-year-old journalism student, who has been accused of blackmailing Congress MLA Hemant Katare has sought CCTV camera footage of the Central Jail to corroborate her claim of violation of jail manual. In a complaint to the DG (Jails), the aspiring journalist, who was sent to central jail for extortion, has alleged that jail manuals were violated and has demanded action against persons responsible for it.

The girl has demanded video footage of the jail to corroborate her claim that Vikramjeet Singh, the co-accused in blackmailing case had come to meet her in the Central Jail during her judicial custody. The girl, who had filed an affidavit in the court stating that her FIRs were ‘fake’ and that she was used as a ‘political tool’ by BJP leader to implicate Congress MLA, wants to present before the court the CCTV footages.

On the complaint of the Congress MLA, police had arrested the girl on charges of attempting to extort a hefty amount from Katare. An accomplice of the girl involved in the extortion racket, Vikramjeet Singh, however managed to slip away from the police. He surrendered before the court on Wednesday.

The girl, who is on bail, has alleged violation of jail manual. She alleged that while she was in the jail, Vikramjeet, who was on the run, visited the prison on January 27. He along with some others met her in the jail. She said that they asked her to level rape allegations against the Congress MLA and when she refused, she was harassed in the jail.

The girl said that she was surprised to find absconding accused roaming freely in the prison in presence of the jail staff and officers. She claimed that she was sexually harassed and stripped in the jail as she refused to budge to implicate Congress MLA. However she succumbed to pressure and repeated harassment and wrote a letter to police seeking registration of case against Katare on charges of rape.

Leader of opposition Ajay Singh has pointed fingers at working of police. “The girl had submitted an affidavit before the Court mentioning that names of state BJP vice-president Arvind Bhadoria and others, but the police have not taken their statement and yet to initiate action against the people, whose names have figured in the affidavit,” said Singh.

Congress leader said that he has written to the DGP and chief minister in connection with Katare case but none of them have taken any step in this direction. He said that that the jail administration should conduct an inquiry into the allegations of the girl and take strict action against the law breakers.
