Bhopal: Anyone looking for 9-5 job has no place at AIIMS says Dr. VK Paul

BHOPAL: Calling upon young doctors and paramedics to share the government’s commitment of round-the-clock quality health care, National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog member Dr VK Paul said there is no place for a person looking for 9-5 job at AIIMS. “We have to continue the AIIMS culture which is totally dedicated to serve the humanity. Teachers, mentors as well as students are expected serve 24×7 and anyone looking for 9-5 working, then he or she has no place at AIIMS,” said Dr Paul, addressing the first convocation of All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhopal, on Sunday.

Quoting PM Narendra Modi’s that the money gone into developing AIIMS could have been utilized for ensuring housing for poor, Dr Paul said that the onus now lies on the graduating doctors and paramedical staff to prove true to the commitment and devote themselves fully to serve the nation. “Every student passing out from the Institute should understand the value of the government commitment towards ensuring quality health services to the people,” said Dr Paul an AIIMS, Delhi Graduate – who remained associated with the institute for last 30 years. It is first convocation of AIIMS, Bhopal, and the students will always be benchmark in the health sector of the world, said Dr Paul. He also called upon the students to stay in the country and serve its people.

Students of MBBS-2012 and 2013 batch, and students of BSc nursing (2013-2014), were awarded medals and degrees on the occasion. “Ayushman Bharat is flagship health programme of the country. Under it medical treatment up to Rs 5 lakh will be ensured and till today, 8.9 lakh beneficiaries have been given treatment under it in the country,” he informed. AIIMS director Dr Sarman Singh said for research, the ace medical institute has collaboration with ISRO, IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Kanpur, IISER-Bhopal, IISc -Bangalore, ICGEB, New Delhi, Delhi University, NIRT- Chennai, Guwahati Medical College and MP state government departments. “We have inaugurated Modular Operation Theatre (MOT) services and our focus for 2019 would be to achieve full bed strength in hospital. Our vision for 2019 is to start a centre of Translational Medicine and Central Instrumentation facility including the whole genome sequencing services which will cater not only the research facilities in the state but also help in prompt and accurate diagnosis of various emerging diseases,” the director said.
