BHOPAL: A two-day workshop on Meta analysis began on Monday at AIIMS where 30 professors from different institutes participated to promote evidence based health care and implementing it to improve medical science.
The workshop on Meta analysis has been organised for the first time in Bhopal in which methods of Meta-Analysis were explained to participants and through group on spot assignments, capacity building was tested on the first day. Dr Abhinav Singh, Course Director, Department of Dentistry, AIIMS said that meta analysis is basically a statistical analysis which involves the results of various scientific studies and this helps in deriving scientific result or conclusion about a research which has been done.
“For instance, in 1972 researches on corticosteroid drug were conducted but Meta analysis of the same was conducted in 1982 and it was found that the drug was beneficial for pregnant women, especially for pre-term deliveries. If meta-analysis was conducted before on the drug 30-50 per cent of the babies could have been saved using the drug. The same way many such possibilities open up when Meta analysis is done”, he said.
