Bhopal: Raising the issue of freedom of speech, AIIMS former student union president began foot march to Delhi on Thursday, the World Press Freedom Day. Sant Guru Prasad said that he has been fighting for the freedom for speech for students of AIIMS whose voices are being suppressed. The student leader said that he will cover the distance of 800 km in a month.

Prasad claimed that students at All India Institute of Medical Sciences have extended their support to his march to Delhi, however, he desisted them from accompanying him as it would disrupt their studies.

“I have chosen World Press Freedom Day to start my foot march to take up the issue that students are being deprived of their right at the medical institute. Whenever, we raise any issue, the administration gags students’ voice,” said Prasad. As there is no permanent director so the students cannot approach higher competent authority to get our grievances redressed, he added.

The students decried that in absence of permanent director there is no one to listen to their complaint and address them. On Wednesday, the students had boycotted their classes demanding appointment of permanent director at AIIMS, Bhopal. Currently, Prof Nitin Madhusudan Nagarkar, director of AIIMS, Raipur, has been given additional charge of AIIMS Bhopal. So if students have any issue they have to approach Nagarkar as local administration shrugs off its responsibility said students.
