Hundreds of quintals of crop were damaged after fire broke out in agricultural fields of a village in Bairasia on Thursday. Fire engulfed fields of as many as 150 farmers, turning tonnes of crops into ashes. Bairasia SDOP, KK Verma said the fire broke out in agricultural fields spread in an area around 600 acres. The fire broke out in Dongaria village under Bairasia at around 2 pm and it took over four hours for the fire brigade teams to douse the fire.
The firefighters from Bairasia, Bairagarh, Chhola, Vidisha and Shamsabad battled to being flames under control. The reason of fire was not known but it is suspected that stubble burning in field led to the blaze. The fire in a field soon turned into an inferno engulfing adjoining fields leading to major loss of crops
SDM, tehsildar, RI, SDOP and SHO of Bairasia along with others inspected the damaged caused by the fire. Aggrieved farmers gathered before the officials and demanded compensation for the damaged crop. Tehsildar Avnish Mishra said that the amount of loss is yet to be ascertained and a survey will be initiated for the same, besides the cause of fire will also be probed.
Stubble burning might have caused the blaze. Stubble burning is intentionally done to clear the straw stubble is the leftover in the fields after the crops are harvested. The administration will find out if the incident occurred due to stubble burning. This is second incident of fire in the area in last four days when due to stubble burning had alleged led to fire damaging tonnes of crops in the field.
