People belonging to upper castes that created a ruckus in many places in the state capital, to protest against the amended SC/ST Atrocity Act, were battered by the police, on Thursday. Different upper caste organisations including Sarv Bharami Samaj, Rajput Samaj and Karni Sena had called a gherao of the CM house. Their members gathered at the Habibganj Naka and marched towards the CM house carrying the banners, posters and black flags. They were stopped by police near the Habibganj railway station.
The members then split and one of the wings entered and created a ruckus in the BJP office. However the police handled the situation. But they gathered again and marched towards the board office. They entered the Congress office by dodging the police and created a ruckus. They were again pulled out by the police.
However when after few minutes the protestors reached and entered into the government bungalow the house of PWD minister Rampal Singh the police became furious and thrashed every protestor who came in their reach. Their leader Shivkumar Sharma alias Kakaji, was also thrashed by the police. For a long time these organisations were mounting pressure on the state government on the issue of SC/ST Act. Many believe that the agitation will fizzle out in coming days with today’s police action.Assistant Superintendent of Police Dinesh Koshal informed that no arrests were made.
