BHOPAL: Umesh Singar, Congress MLA from the Gandhwani constituency of Dhar district, has alleged that cops from Tand police station of the district manhandled tribals and raped four tribal women on January 25.
Addressing a press conference, along with the four rape victims, at the PCC office here on Monday, he alleged that policemen had reached village Bhutia and Holibada to arrest the accused in burglary case. They entered the houses, damaged household belongings of the tribals and raped four women, besides misbehaving with adolescent girls.
He also alleged that when the victim women reached the police station to lodge a formal complaint, they were shoed away. When they went to the hospital to get their medical examination done, it was refused.
He alleged that four of the accused wanted by the police are in jail and one is dead.
The 10 motorcycle and two tractors which are alleged to be stolen are registered in the names of the tribals of the village. He also alleged that the police party took away valuables along with cash from the houses.
He demanded that an FIR should be lodged against the accused policemen and a judicial probe should be ordered into the incident. He also demanded transfer of the collector and the SP of the district. He demanded that the ASP Raisingh Narwariya and Ajay Singh should be suspended with immediate effect. The state government should provide compensation to the affected families and also ensure that their belongings are restored to them.
The MLA and the affected tribals have submitted a complaint in the State Women’s Commission. PCC president Arun Yadav and others accompanied the MLA to meet the DGP. They demanded action in the matter.
