Bhopal: 1 killed, valuables worth lakhs gutted in fire

Valuables worth lakhs were gutted in a fire that broke out in front of Masjid Shakoor Khan near Lalwani Press under Kotwali police station on Tuesday evening. A 38-year-old man who got injured in the fire died in Hamdia Hospital while undergoing treatment. The deceased Suneel Jain worked in the gowdown which got engulfed in fire that first broke out in a transformer. Second and third floors of Saaz complex building were gutted in the fire.

The fire was so intense that the fire tenders from every fire station were pressed into action. However, due to the heavy traffic and encroachment in the area, the fire tenders got delayed enroute. Over 15 fire fighters from Fatehgarh, Gandhi Nagar, Bairagarhm Pul Bogda and Govindpura were rushed to the area. Over 15 water tankers were also roped in to save the residents. The fire after breaking out in the transformer gripped the building nearby and after spreaing, it gripped the first and the second floors. All the workers and owners of the shops and gowdowns ran helter and skelter to save their lives.

The area has number of buildings that came in the way of relied wok but the firemen found no way to douse the flames as the whole building was almost blocked. However the firemen got into a nearby buildings started pouring water. The buildings nearby were also broken to thrown water into the building.

All the workers were saved but one person who had sustained injuries and had suffocated was taken to Hamidia where he died. The loss in the incident is yet to be ascertained but given the shops in the market deal in fabrics and textiles the loss may be more than anticipated. Local corproator Sanjeev Gupta said the area is congested and that the fire safety arrangements are not enough here. He said the alternative arrangements should be there in these lanes.

Godown of Hindi daily gutted in fire
BHOPAL: Another fire that broke out in Govindpura industrial area gutted the godown of a Hindi daily under limits of Ashoka Garden police station. The fire broke out at around 07:20 pm on Tuesday. A resident of the area spotted smoke billowing out of the godown and informd the fire brigade. According to sources, paper rolls used for printing newspaper and other scraps were gutted in the fire. Around 10 fire tenders were working to douse the flames by the time of this news going to the press.CSP MP Nagar Satish Samadhiya said the cause of fire was alleged to be short circuit but a probe into it is underway. He said around 600 bundles are gutted but the loss is yet to be ascertained.
