BHOPAL: Barricading of the roads in connection with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Friday visit left commuters a harried lot on Thursday as it led to traffic jams at peak hours in the city.
The police have barricaded roads at various places-MP Nagar, Shivaji Nagar, Chinar Park, Jail Road, Jehangirabad, Retghat and Kamla Park (Ginnori). Almost all the roads leading to the places PM Modi will be visiting have been barricaded and policemen deployed.
Modi will arrive in the city at 4:00 pm. He will address ex-army men at Lal Parade Ground and will visit Jain Mandir near Habibganj Railway Station to meet a Jain seer. He will also dedicate Shaurya Smarak (War Memorial) to the nation. He will stay in Bhopal for two-and-a-half hours – and those happen to be peak traffic hours on a working day.
On Thursday, various roads which lead to Saurya Samarak have been barricaded. Traffic has also been diverted. Roads will remain closed for traffic in the evening particularly at Jahangirabad, Shivaji Nagar, Chinar Park, Jain Mandir and Habibganj.
Similarly, Hakim Hotel road has also been barricaded. Vehicles had to slow down at barricades as only space enough to allow one vehicle to pass has been left open in between the barricades.
Vehicles will not be allowed around Lal Parade Ground from 12 noon to 9 pm. Entry of heavy vehicles will be prohibited in the city from 2 pm to 11 pm. The area between Control Room Trisection, Old SP Office, Control Room Trisection, Old Jail, SP Office and Shabban Square will be no-vehicle zones.
