BHOPAL : A team of Lokayukta establishment on Monday evening caught an ASI red-handed at Sukhi Sewania police station while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000. The ASI was harassing director of a private college and demanding money for hushing up a case against him.
SP Lokayukt Virendra Singh, while talking to ‘Free Press’, said that Himanshu Sharma, son of Rajkumar Sharma (retired DSP Lokayukta), resident of Govindpura area, had filed a complaint against ASI Gyan Singh Chandel, posted at Sukhi Sewania police station. In his complaint Sharma had stated that ASI Chandel was harassing him mentally and asking him to hand over a sum of Rs 15000 for hushing up a complaint against him. Chandel had threatened Sharma that if he fails to pay the sum he would register a serious case against him.
Talking to Free Press, DSP Naveen Awasthi, who led the team that nabbed Chandel red-handed, said that complainant Sharma owns Sparta College within the limits of Sukhi Sewania police station. Chandel was harassing Sharma for the last few days saying that the students of seventh semester of his college had filed a complaint against him that he was extorting money from them to pass the exams.
Chandel had already taken Rs 2,000 from Sharma and was demanding Rs 15,000 more from him. The team acting on his complaint investigated the matter and set a trap to nab the corrupt cop. Later Sharma was sent to him with Rs 15000. When Chandel was accepting the bribe the team nabbed him red-handed on Vidisha Bypass Road.
