BHOPAL : After interrogating former Vyapam chairperson Ranjana Chaudhary, the STF is now under pressure to quiz Union Minister Uma Bharati.
The High Court appointed SIT had issued instructions to STF, asking it to probe the role of Uma and Chaudhary in the scam.
The Excel Sheet of Nitin Mahindra also mentions the name of Uma. In this situation, STF may have little choice excepting recording Uma’s statements.
The High Court, which had asked the SIT to get the role of the two ladies probed, may seek a report on the compliance of its instructions at the hearing scheduled for Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Bharati is maintaining a stoic silence on the issue. The Minister, who once had termed Vyapam as a bigger scam than the Fodder scam of Bihar and demanded CBI probe into it, has now changed her tune. She is now saying that the STF is probing in the right direction.
Uma, who had to wait for almost ten years after quitting as Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, for tasting power is understandably perturbed over the possibility of her getting embroiled in the scam.
No wonder, she is visiting temples and shrines across the state for the last two days. On Sunday, she paid obeisance to Lord Shiva in Amarkantak and after that, she reached Chauragarh Temple at Pachmarhi, where people generally go to seek a wish.
Uma also attended a religious programme in Sagar, organised by Transport Minister Bhupendra Singh. The devotees made Shivlingas with clay at the function.
