Accused absconding in abduction case for 13 years held

BHOPAL : The Habibganj police, on Tuesday, nabbed an accused who was absconding for the past 13 years. He was wanted in the infamous case of abduction of Shubhankar Nandi, registered at Kamla Nagar police station. Nine accused were arrested earlier by the police while four of them were absconding. Two of the accused were killed in the police encounter while another fled from the police custody. Three accused were awarded life term in the year 2004.

TI Habibganj Sudhir Arjaria said that Shubhankar Nandi, a Reliance Sales executive, was abducted on July 13 in the year 2002 and the accused demanded a ransom of Rs 30 lakh for setting him free. His father was a senior officer in the Drug Administration department. A case was lodged at Kamla Nagar police station in this regard.

The Kamla Nagar police arrested Prakash Singh, Vikas Singh, Nitin Agrawal, Gopal Singh, Phool Singh, Gopal Saini, Raj Mohammed, Kamlesh alias prince Pandey and Surendra Singh parihar. Two of their accomplices Subhash Baghel and Vikas Bijora were killed in police encounter in Chhatarpur in the same case. Prakash, Surendra and Gopal were awarded life imprisonment.

Accused Aziz Mohammed, Happy alias Vimlesh, Vivek Singh and Dadu alias Dawood Khan were absconding.

The accused Aziz Mohammed was arrested from Chhatarpur on the tip off from an informer. The brother of the accused Raj Mohammed was arrested by the police earlier but he escaped from police custody. Information regarding him would also be sought from the arrested accused. The accused was running a school in Chhattarpur.
