8-inch rainfall breaks 8-yrs old record

BHOPAL : Rain broke the eight year old record in the state capital and recorded as much as 8-inch rainfall in last 24 hours. In 2007, it had recorded 161mm, and it has reached the 148.8mm rainfall level as of now.

So far, Bhopal recorded 412mm rainfall which is 43.8mm above normal. The Weather man has warned off heavy to very heavy rains in the next 24 hours in Bhopal division. Normal life was paralysed because of heavy rains witnessed in the last two days in Bhopal.

As per call centre of Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), flood like situation prevailed 28 colonies of the state capital including Rachna Nagar, Arera Colony, Char Imli, Idgah Hills (police line), Pipalia Pende Khan, Subhash Nagar, Ayodhya Nagar, Karond, Rohit Nagar, Nehru Nagar, Jathkhedi, JK Road, Patel Nagar, Banganga, Chhola, Budhwara, Janata Quarters, Jahangirabad, Dwarka Nagar, Safia College, RCVP Noronha Academy of Administration (Shahpura), Kaushalya Avenue, Green Jagriti, Ashoka Vihar, and Palace Archid (Kolar).

In many areas, underground sewage also was seen floating thereby compounding problems for the residents. Similarly basements of many commercial complexes were inundated with rain water.

Many shops which have been using the basements for commercial purposes also felt the wrath of the Rain-God and had to keep siphoning off the water from basement.

Many low lying areas of the city were affected because of the issue. Traffic issues also were witnessed in the water logged roads including the Hamidia Road affecting the public transport buses which ply from there.

Trees fell down at three places-Koh-e-Fiza, Idgah Hills and Bhopal Talkies and disrupted power supplies in many of the colonies present in these regions., as the fall down broke many electric cables.

No casualty has been reported so far.

Director Meteorological department Dr Anupam Kashyapi said, “Rain which has been experienced in the last two days, has fulfilled the deficiency witnessed during the rest of the month. He said that heavy to very heavy rain fall is likely in Bhopal division in the next 24 hours”.

Met issues flood alert! 

Meteorological department has declared alert for flood in Bhopal, Indore, Ujjain, Guna and Dewas divisions.
