Swedish luxury carmaker, Volvo, has planned to give a new direction to its recently acquired performance marque Polestar. So, while Polestar will continue to make performance cars, in future, you will get to see the brand evolving into an electric performance carmaker. The big news, however, is that Polestar-optimised Volvo cars will not bear a Volvo badge anymore!

Volvo acquired Polestar Performance in 2015. Prior to this acquisition, both the brands used to work hand-in-hand as Polestar used to optimise Volvo cars for motorsport events. From now on, Polestar will have the aim of building high-performance electric cars.

Electrification and hybridisation started with the aim to make vehicles more fuel efficient. However, they have benefitted the performance segment significantly without increasing the carbon footprint. With Polestar’s focus on electrification and performance, Volvo’s performance division should be here to stay for long.

Volvo has also cleared their intent of not working on a newer generation of diesel engines, and the brand’s focus on electrification is clearer now with even Polestar focusing on the green tech. While Polestar and Volvo figure out their future plans, check out our review of the 367PS Volvo S60 Polestar!
