Mercedes-Benz is all set to finally reveal the pickup it first teased last year. A teaser video gives us a glimpse of what can be expected and, while it is based on the big and boxy Nissan Navara, the Germans have reworked the design extensively to make it look European.

The video doesn’t reveal much, but shows bits like the swooping bonnet-line, plus-sized brand logo on the front grille, a sleek set of swept-back headlamps and wing mirrors, and LED taillights, along with the aggressively styled front bumper. The overall profile is unmistakably similar to the Japanese pickup it’s based on, but you can be sure to expect better quality levels and a more expansive feature list. While the platform will be shared with the Navara, the engine and transmission options are expected to include a range of four- and six-cylinder engines from Daimler.

Trivia: Renault supplies the 1.6-litre, four-cylinder diesel engine that is offered with the C-Class in certain markets, while Mercedes supplies a 2.0-litre petrol engine used by Nissan’s luxury division, Infiniti.

Set to debut in its concept form on October 25 in Stockholm, Sweden, the pickup will initially target markets like Latin America, South Africa, Australia and Europe. The USA hasn’t been mentioned as a target market just yet but, given the popularity of pickups in the country, the possibility of a launch cannot be ruled out.

More details, including the pickup’s name, could be revealed when the concept is unveiled, though reports suggest Mercedes-Benz could christen it the ‘GLT’ Class.

An India launch does seem unlikely, but we’d definitely like to see it here. Click here to check out some more pickups we’d like to see in India!
