A woman, aged 71, offered 'namaz' at a public place in Uttar Pradesh on Monday as the country celebrated Eid. Identified as Munni, she offered the religious prayer outside the District Magistrate's office in Hamirpur. She was booked for her action and a home guard on the premises was suspended.
The video of the woman offering namaz in the official place has surfaced online. Dressed in a pink salwar kameez and a lengthy scarf covering her head and arms, she sat on the floor and leaned forward during the prayer.

Sharing the visuals from the DM office, reports mentioned an FIR was registered against Munni. "An FIR has been filed against an old woman for offering namaaz in a public place outside the DM office in Hamirpur district of Uttar Pradesh. The home guard posted on duty has been suspended", journalist Sachin Gupta posted on X.
Hamirpur Superintendent of Police Deeksha Sharma was quoted in a report by the Indian Express. Sharma informed that police action was taken after the video went viral. While the woman faced charges of trespassing, she was soon released citing "mentally unstable" claims of her family members.

UP govt on namaz during Eid
On Eid day, the UP government had announced restrictions on offering namaz in public. Stating that it obstructs traffic movement, CM Yogi Adityanath defended his administration's move urging Muslims not offer namaz on the streets.
