Ujjain : Irked over the lackadaisical approach of Ujjain Municipal Commissioner (UMC), around 200 female residents of Muni Nagar symbolically blocked the road in front of the bungalow of Commissioner Municipal Corporation (CMC) Vivek Kshotriya on Saturday. Residents got angry as they were not supplied tap water for the last five days.
Agitated residents were led by ward-49 BJP corporator Ritubala Vyas, who had been constantly asking UMC officials to get the intake-well repaired for the adequate supply of tap water to the locality. The coprorator told Free Press that a drain in ward-50 got choked after the heavy on July 13. The choked train left ward-49 water-logged and damaged the intake-well causing breakdown of water supply in the Muni Nagar locality. The well was filled with the sewerage water and garbage and the locals have been facing acute shortage of water since last five days. CMC Vivek Kshotriya visited the locality on the same night and assured the locals to get the intake-well repaired. Even after the assurance of CMC, none of the officials turned up to repair the well. BJP leader Santosh Vyas said that they went to meet CMC at his bungalow to narrate their plight. The residents demanded suspension of irresponsible UMC employees who do not pay attention to the problems of the denizens. The UMC had been constantly informed about the dilapidated state of the wall of intake-well since last four years, but they did not pay any attention. Even the UMC employees whose duty is to clean the drains before rainy season should be suspended for their negligence, he said. Several officials and employees from government departments reside in the locality and they have been facing the water crisis. Later, UMC additional commissioner RP Shrivastava, Executive Engineer PL Tatwal, PHE superintending engineer VK Soni and others reached at the spot and assured agitated residents to solve their problems. The UMC officials told that a tender will be issued to construct the intake-well within a week. CSP Vijay Davar, TI Madhav Nagar RK Singh also reached at the spot to calm down the agitators.
