Why is India an important market for Oman Tourism?
Given the proximity to Oman and great flight connectivity, India represents a substantial and vast market for the Sultanate, and a high percentage of Indians are willing to travel to the country for an authentic Arabian experience. We have been observing a steady year-on-year increase in tourist arrivals to Oman from India and are extremely pleased with the consistent growth. In 2018, Oman recorded 12.37% growth in Indian tourist arrivals with 357,147 travellers visiting the country vis-à-vis 317,844 in 2017 ranking India as the second highest source market for Oman. Keeping up with this growth trajectory, Oman has already witnessed 17% increase in the period of January to April 2019 with 130,011 Indian visitors to Oman in comparison to 111,123 during the same period in 2018.
What are some of the things Indian travellers can expect to find in Oman that make it a destination of interest to them?

The country has a modern infrastructure along with beautiful communion of old world charm and modernism. This makes Oman a preferred destination for travellers looking for unique experience. The country’s stunning landscape appeals to every kind of holiday seeker: from families looking for group joint activities, to a perfect honeymoon getaway or a group of friends in quest for an adventure of a lifetime.
How geared is Oman towards hosting Indian destination weddings, given that the Middle East is now a hot region for destination weddings?
Muscat is a well-endowed city with modern infrastructure and its world class hotels provide a perfect set up for big fat destination weddings. These hotels have the capacity to cater to large groups, provide Indian meal preferences and offer great level of customisation for special requests. Also, being under 3 hours away from India, having excellent air connectivity with various cities in India, easy visa process and authentic Arabian experience coupled with genuine hospitality has made Oman a preferable wedding destination for Indians.
Are there any special India-centric plans chalked out by Oman Tourism?
The Ministry has taken steps to develop and promote a broader variety of distinctive experiences, with the goal of encouraging extended visits and greater engagement with the country’s culture and natural sites. The first quarter of 2019 has seen some prominent developments with the inaugural of luxury boutique hotel W Muscat, launch of Middle East’s largest aquarium in the Mall of Muscat and opening of the House of Musical Arts in the Royal Opera House Muscat. The state-of-the-art Muscat International Airport has given Oman a plush gateway offering unrivalled service. Also, to attract more travellers to visit the country, last year Oman announced a new short-term tourist visa at 5 Omani Riyal (OMR) equivalent to approximately INR 900, for a 10-day visit.
