Mumbai : The Indian Taekwondo Challenge Trophy 2015 – a three day tournament hosted by the Taekwondo Board of India – ended with a big prize distribution ceremony in Mumbai on Thursday at the Giton Tank, Grant Road. The ITC 2015 had the highest ever cash prize of Rs 27,71,000.
Hosted by the state chapter – Taekwondo Board of Maharashtra, ITC 2015 (Sparring and Poomsae Championship) the event began with a Kukkiwon Taekwondo training seminar for instructors and senior athletes. With over 1,500 athletes from various Taekwondo schools across India and the world participated in different categories, ITC 2015 is the biggest Taekwondo event held in India in recent times. The highlight was the address of Grand Master Doohwan Choi from Kukkiwon (World Taekwondo Headquarters in South Korea) to the athletes in a big seminar.
After the seminar a demonstration fight took place between Common Wealth Games Silver medalist Mehraj Singh and Open International Gold medalist Shubh Kambodh. Champions from Asian Games, Asian Championship participated in this event. The states that participated in this event were Punjab, Haryana, Gujarat, Manipur, and Himachal Pradesh. The participants were from various private universities, academies and clubs. In the Sparring/Poomsae weight categories for colour belt, girls and boys under age 11 to athletes up to age 17 took part in the individual, mixed, doubles and team categories. The same was for the black belt category.
