New Delhi :  The Sports Ministry on Wednesday cited convention while defending controversial accreditations it got for its officials for the Incheon Asian Games, saying it was “not an issue” for them.

Sports Secretary Ajit Sharan had accredited himself as Sports Minister while several other Ministry officials got accreditations as IOA staffers and Guests.

“It’s not an issue. In the absence of the minister, as head of the delegation, I can represent the minister. We had asked IOA to give us appropriate accreditations, so no fuss should be created,” Sharan said.

While Sharan was defending the Ministry, Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal was seen whispering in his ears that such accreditations were part of a convention

“It’s a convention. It has been done all the time in the past,” Sharan added.
