Mumbai : Mahesh Jagdale of Elphinstone Cricket Club fired a decisive break in the decider to snatch an exciting 3-2 win, in the Matunga Gymkhana Open Billiards Tournament on Friday.
Jagdale, who led 2-1, gave the elite main draw an explosive start when he hit a 55 break in the final frame of the 100-up best-of-five Group F tie against club mate Sunil Jain who forced the decider with a 69 break in the crucial fourth frame.
Chandresh Shah of PJ Hindu Gymkhana also rallied from 1-2 to snatch a 3-2 win over Nikhil Lalwani of Chembur Gymkhana in Group A, while Sanjiv Bijlani of Park Club overcame Rishabh Kumar of Bombay Gymkhana by the same margin in Group D to complete an exciting day of close encounters.
V. Subramanian of the host club kicked off his campaign with a 3-0 win over club mate Nikhil Ghadge in an effort that included a break of 58 in the opening frame and 49 in the second, while world team silver winner and defending champion Dhruv Sitwala, aiming for a hat-trick of titles, fired an unfinished 101 in his 3-0 win over Amit Sapru of Park Club in Group A.
