SASA Track and Field Championships: Arav, Tanishka Krishnan adjudged best athletes

Mumbai: Sidhwani, from American School of Bombay (Bandra) and Tanishka Krishnan, from JBCN International were adjudged the best athletes in the inaugural SASA (Schools Association for Sports and Athletics) Track and Field Championships at Somaiya schools ground at |Ghatkopar (East) here on Friday. In the boys under-16, Sidhwani was unchallenged in the track events and went on to add a bronze in the pit event and accumulate 21 points. He was closely followed by Bombay Cambridge International’s Prithvi Bhatt (U-12), who fell short by one point to finish behind the champion.

Tanishka with three gold medals in the sprint event (100m) with champion in the long jump and shot put and added the silver lining finishing second in the 200m. And her effort saw her garner 18 points to emerge champion. She was followed by Vittada Badgeri (U-16) who won gold in 100m, 200m and 400m came second best. The JBCN International School athletes were the overall champions with 118 points.

Boys (U-16): Arav Sidhwani (American School, Bandra 21 pts; U-14: Aryan Mishra (RBK. Int.): 8 pts; U-12: Prithvi Bhatt (Bombay Cambridge Int): 20 pts; U-10: Jehan Maloo (RBK Int.): 16 pts; U-8: Krishay Shah (JBCN) and Samarth Rai (RBK int.): 8 pts each.
Girls (U-16): Vittada Badgeri (JBCN Int.): 15 pts; U-14: Aaira Agarwal (JBCN Int,): 11 pts; U-12: Tanishka Krishnan, (JBCN Int): 18 pts; U-10: Ayaana Agarwal (JBCN Lnt): 15 pts; U-8: Khiah Jain (Don Bosco Int)- 10 pts.

It was a batsmen dominated day with Ayush Jetha (Swami Vivekanand), Karan Suraiya and Jash Ganiga (both IES, Bandra), hammered centuries to take their respective sides into the semifinals of the Khar Gymkhana- B.Khichadia Under-16 Suburban schools cricket tournament, here on Friday. Ayush continued his good form cracking 110 against Rustomjee International, as the Borivali boys went on to score a 314-run win. Apart from Ayush. Angkrish Raghuvanshi (90), Saurabh Singh 94) boosted their side to a big win. While Karan Suraiya (156 n.o.) and Yash Gangia (161) thrashed Dhirubhai Ambani bowlers to steer IES (English) to 246 run. Both the teams meet each other in the semifinal, while the other semifinal will be contested by Parle Tilak, who beat Oxford Public by 31 runs and the winner of the tie between favourites Rizvi Springfield and Lakshadham (Goregaon).

Aditya Birla School, Tardeo has a bad day at the court as they succumbed to a 17-0 defeat against Vibgyor High, Malad in the Girls U-13 MSSA Inter-School Basketball Tournament played at MSSA Grounds on Friday.

Hirday nets winner Defending champions Mumbai recorded a narrow 1-0 win against Kolhapur in the semifinals of the sub-juniors boys, WIFA Inter-District Football Championship, on Friday. Hriday Haria found the net in the 11th minute of play which turned out to be the match winner for Mumbai. Mumbai will clash with Pune, who defeated Nagpur District 4-0. Tushar Durga notched up a hat-trick, while Akib Ansari chipped in a goal.
