Vasai : Biren M. Pithawala of Mumbai driving a Nissan GTR drove away with the top honours in the H3 (foreign cars – 3001 to 4000cc) category in the ‘Roaring Champions’, the country’s first nigh lit drag race, being conducted at Yashwant Smart City, a new layout of 55 acres in Vasai East. Roaring Champions is a FMSCI sanctioned event which is being jointly promoted by the Ameya Group of Companies and Elite Octane.
Pithawala showed excellent control as he coolly negotiated the one lap race clocking a time of 11.838 seconds to clinch the first place as Mumbai drivers made a clean sweep of the event. Shubham Lad and Samit Satish Naik finished behind in second and third positions. Lad behind the wheel of a Merc SLK 350 completed the race in a time of 14.788 second while Naik managed to snatch the third spot with a timing of 16.618 seconds.
The onset of monsoon showers caused a couple of interruptions to the proceedings which resulted in quite a delay. However, the rains did not dampen the spirits of the riders and drivers as they participated with the same kind of enthusiasm as they had come prepared for the race.
