Mumbai: A good trainer can hear a horse speak to him. A great trainer can hear him whisper and this is what an equestrian is all about. And the great show of the man and the beast is on the cards when the National Equestrian Championship unfolds at the Mahalaxmi race Copurse from February 25 to March 3. And it is time to cheer as the city gears up to host the NEC for Show Jumping, by the Equestrian Federation of India (EFI).

“Yes, it is coming back to the city after 21 years and we are all geared up for the big event,” said the president of the Amateur Riding Club, Shyam MehtaIt will be a state-of-art show with all warm blood horses which even cost more than a Rs crore in the event, the show jumping,” said Kundanwalla. “Yes it has been quite a while one gets to witness the man and the beast shrugging it out in the middle of the Race course,” said Mehta.

“At least 100 horses will be coming to Mahalaxmi from all over India. Some of these animals can cost approximately Rs 1 crore each. India has reached the big league when it comes to buying horses; buyers are travelling to Europe, paying big bucks for their horses. As a sport, we have done well in the equestrian events at the Asian Games level.”

The Royal Western India Turf Club (RWITC), has promised us support. A ‘camp’ will be set up, where temporary stables will be made for these horses. I think we will be able to put on a spectacular show. We are providing them temporary stables and we are happy that an event if back in Mumbai,” said Mani, CEo of RWITC.

The Amateur Riders’ Club (ARC) was established in the year 1942, and is one of the oldest and largest private civilian riding clubs in India, located at the Royal Western Turf Club Race Course, Mahalaxmi. The annual horse show and polo tournaments take place in March.
