Mumbai : Mizoram overcame Services 2-1 in the concluding Group-A league match of the 70thNational Football Championship for the Santosh Trophy, conducted by WIFA under the auspices of AIFF and hosted by NDFA, and played at the SEC Railway ground, on Tueday.
Mizoram scored through M.S. Dawngliana (49th minute) and Lalkhapuimawia (59th min) while Services scored through Arjun Tudo (23rd min). Dawngliana of Mizoram was declared ‘Man of the match’.
Last year’s winners Services finished with nine points the same as Maharashtra, who topped the group with a better goal difference. Mizoram, who were runners-up last year bowed out with seven points.
Meanwhile, in an inconsequential match played at the University Stadium, Jammu & Kashmir scored an identical 2-1 win against Railways. Shahnwaz Bashir (38th min) and Altamash Syed (85th min) scored the goals for the Jammu side while Railways scored through Anil Kisku (61st min). Danish Farooque of Kammu & Kashmir was adjudged ‘Man of the match’.
Results –Pool-A: Mizoram 2 (M.S. Dawngliana 49th, Lalkhapuimawia 59th) beat Services 1 (Arjun Tudo 23rd). Man of the match: Dawngliana (Mizoram).
Jammu & Kashmir 2 (Shahnwaz Bashir 38th, Altamash Syed 85th) beat Railways 1 (Anil Kisku 61st). Man of the match: Danish Farooque (Kammu & Kashmir).
