Mumbai: Maharashtra Police downed Central Railway 79-71 in the men’s final of Chembur YMCA Invitational Basketball Championship 2014 for men and women for Lino Gracias Memorial Trophy, at Chembur Gymkhana. The State Police thus took a sweet revenge for their Mastan tourney defeat at the hands of the railmen.

For Bandra YMCA, it was the performances of Shagun Khanna, pivot Pooja Ajmera and Nidah Kaiser that brought them the second title when they defeated Chembur St Anthony’s outfit 51-45. They had won the Mastan tourney earlier this month. Though they trailed by a solitary point in the opening quarter, they took charge from the second quarters and never looked back to clinch the issue.

For the state policemen, it was virtually like a reversal of form from their earlier show. They took control from the first quarter itself and never looked back to beat their rivals by eight points. Nilesh Raut was again their top scorer with 21 points, while Kartik Counders excelled for the losers , scoring 23 points.

FINAL RESULTS: Women: Bandra YMCA 51 (Shagun Khanna 16) bt  St. Anthony’s ( Chembur) 45 (Ankita Negi 20).
Men: Maharashtra Police 79 (Nilesh Raut 21) bt Central Railway 71 (Kartik Counder 23).
