Mumbai : Khar Gymkhana ‘A’ beat Indian Gymkhana 3-1 win to enter the team championship second round, in the Khar Gymkhana Maharashtra State Ranking Veterans Table Tennis Tournament. Ganadeep Bhiwandkar played the pivotal role for the hosts by winning the opening singles, doubles and reverse singles. Khar Gymkhana dropped the second singles tie but recovered when Bhiwandkar and Rohitesh Haldar won the crucial doubles for a 2-1 lead. In other first round ties, New India Club beat Chembur Gymkhana and Three Diamonds ‘A’ prevailed over BPCL (Refineries) with 3-0 wins.
The tournament, being held under the aegis of MSVTTTA & MSDTTA, features eight categories for men’s and women’s singles, Open men’s and women’s doubles and Team Championship. Sunil Babras and Prakash Kelkar lead a host of well known players that will also include Upendra Muley, Manish Rawat, Debdoot Chaterjee, Nitin Toshniwal, K.K. Rai, Yogesh Desai, Suhasini Bakre, Mangal Saraf, Trupti Machwe, Pinakin Sampat and Preeti Pardeshi. Players will also arrive from Sholapur, Jalgaon, Nagpur, Nashik and Pune.
