Jignesh Rahatwal sends top seed packing

Jignesh Rahatwal, mixing aggression with caution, sent the top seed Bhavesh Apte crashing with a 4-1 win to storm into men’s semifinals, of the MCF -All Mumbai 4-Star Ranking Table Tennis tournament, at the Borivali sports complex here on Friday.

Mumbai: Jignesh Rahatwal, mixing aggression with caution, sent the top seed Bhavesh Apte crashing with a 4-1 win to storm into men’s semifinals, of the MCF -All Mumbai 4-Star Ranking Table Tennis tournament, at the Borivali sports complex here on Friday. Jignesh was in such a control that left his rival in a mess, unable to match Jignesh’s hold on the tie before he was through with a 11-9,12-10,3-11,12-10,14-12 scoreline.

While Ravindra Kotiyan, a former state champion, and seeded second kept his nerves to get the better of junior Hrishikesh Malhotra 9-11,12-10,11-4, 11-13,11-5 to move into the last four. But the third seeded Bhavitvya Shah fell to the guiles of Tanmay Rane, who beat him 11-4,11-6, 14-12, 11-9. And to show how much he has improved over in a last year was junior Chinmaiya Somayia, who swept Viren Patel 11-9,11-8, 11-9, 8-11, 11-6, to complete the men’s semifinal lineup. Incidentally, Chinmaiya also figures in the youth as well as junior boys singles semifinals.
