Former England spinner Graeme Swann reckoned that Three Lions batsman Jonny Bairstow has struggled against India as he hasn't faced a quality bowling attack in recent times.
Going into the fifth Test, the spotlight was on Bairstow after his exploits with the willow in England's 3-0 whitewash of New Zealand in the recently-concluded Test series.
The right-handed batsman smashed a scintillating 92-ball 136 as his team chased down 299 runs to win the match in Nottingham.
In the third and final Test against the Kiwis, he scored 162 to save England from a batting collapse in the first innings and followed it up with the second-fastest fifty in the history of Test cricket in just 30 balls.
However, Bairstow has found it difficult against the pace attack led by Jasprit Bumrah at Edgbaston.
“Jonny Bairstow looks a shadow of the player who was smashing it against New Zealand last week. He wasn’t facing bowling of this standard,” Swann said while doing commentary duties on Sony Sports Network.
Bairstow, along with Ben Stokes, has a big job ahead of them on Day three chasing down India’s 416.
