US-based Amazon has bagged rights to broadcast live Champions League football matches in the UK, starting from 2024, reports suggest.
According to a report in the Financial Times, the deal will see Amazon split UK rights to the top-rated European club tournament with current UK rightsholder BT Sport.
Amazon’s deal will give the streaming giant one game a week, around 20 matches a season.
The Champions League tournament is set to increase from 32 to 36 teams under a new format in 2024.
“The addition of UEFA Champions League football is a truly momentous moment for Prime Video in the UK,” said Alex Green, managing director, Prime Video Sport Europe.
