Pune: Pune city witnessed sudden ‘floods’ yet again, on a wintry morning, as on September 27, 2018, when the Mutha canal wall had collapsed. On Thursday, the Parvati Water Purification tanks on Sinhagadh Road overflowed at 6.30 am, causing waterlogging on Navsha Maruti and Chunabhatti roads in the area. It was left to those on an early morning walk to alert the civic officials.

It is estimated that a few lakh litres of water went down the drain within two hours, thanks to the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) negligence. , The incident comes in the midst of a water cut in Pune City. Residents panicked as water entered nearly 10 homes in these areas. Morning walkers who were on their daily rounds at the PL Deshpande garden saw the gushing water, realised it was overflowing from the purification tanks and immediately alerted the PMC officials.

The PMC workers struggled to stop the overflow because the valves were non-functional, resulting in water wastage for over two hours. There were traffic snarls in these areas as a result of the knee-deep water accumulation caused by the incident. Further suffering was brought on by this unexpected deluge, as water supply to the neighbourhood was disconnected.
