Pune: Politics in Ahmednagar is spilling onto the streets as the split between the Congress-Nationalist Congress Party is wide open. Shiv Sena is now supporting Congress along with the other fringe parties. They have all sworn to support to BJP candidate Sujay Vikhe-Patil.
This has put brakes on the NCP candidate Sangram Jagtap’s future. Nagar taluka Congress, with the help of Sena, put up a huge rally. Leaders from both the parties were seen together on the dais. Sena and Congress have promised to get Vikhe-Patil elected.
Prior to the elections, the leader of Opposition in the Assembly, Vikhe-Patil, had requested NCP chief Sharad Pawar to leave the Ahmednagar NCP seat for his son, Sujay. However, Pawar, refused asking what contribution has Sujay made to the alliance. There were talks, the Congress president, Rahul Gandhi was to mediate between Congress and NCP. Since this was not done, Sujay crossed over.
