Pune: Climate change is here, for real, and the whole world can vouch for the fact. Closer home, the National Capital Region, particularly New Delhi and Noida, have been witnessing rains, it is snowing yet again in Himachal Pradesh and Kashmir, and the temperatures are yet again cooler in Mumbai.  In Maharashtra, meteorologists have now forecast heavy winds leading to rainstorms in the Vidarbha and Marathwada region, on February 20-21.

Thunder, lightning and stormy conditions are expected in Amravati, Akola, Buldhana and Washim during these days. Some areas of Yavatmal, Wardha, Nagpur, Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli and Aurangabad are also likely to have stormy weather. There is also the possibility of hailstorms in some of these areas. Rising temperatures have resulted in cloudy weather and by February 21-22, heavy rains are likely.

The agriculture department has asked farmers to store foodgrains and produce in dry places. Traders have been told to cover grains and vegetable/fruit stock to be sold at the markets. Officials have also cautioned villagers against seeking shelter in open grounds, under trees and inside tin sheds.
