MIT Art, Design & Technology (MIT-ADT) University has been granted recognition by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) as a Khelo India Residential Training Centre for rowing. This makes MIT-ADT the first university in the state to receive this prestigious SAI approval for the sport.

The university's sports complex is equipped with world-class facilities. The Dr Vishwanath Karad MIT Sports Academy provides specialised training in rowing, boxing and swimming under the guidance of national-level coaches. Consequently, the rowing academy has produced athletes who have represented India at both national and international levels, bringing laurels to the university.

Last year, School of Law professor Aditya Kendari won a gold medal while representing India at the Asian Indoor Rowing Championship. Following this achievement, the university's Executive President, Prof Dr Mangesh Karad, stated that receiving SAI recognition for the rowing academy under Khelo India will provide aspiring rowers in Pune and surrounding regions with a dedicated training centre.

To celebrate this success, university officials, including Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Rajesh S, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Dr Ramchandra Pujeri, Dr Mohit Dubey, Registrar Dr Mahesh Chopde and Director of Sports Prof Padmakar Phad, congratulated the sports department.

Along with SAI recognition, the Dr Vishwanath Karad MIT Sports Academy has also been selected as a Rowing Talent Development Training Centre under the Maharashtra Government’s Lakshya Vedh Initiative. Additionally, rowers Bhagyashree Ghule, Anushka Garje and coach Suhas Kamble have received official recognition.
