Vikhroli road mishap: 2 women dead, boy critical

In a tragic accident, two women, who were sleeping under a tanker, lost their lives and a little boy sustained serious injuries at Kailash Complex, Vikhroli, on Saturday night.

Mumbai: In a tragic accident, two women, who were sleeping under a tanker, lost their lives and a little boy sustained serious injuries at Kailash Complex, Vikh­roli, on Saturday night. According to police, the deceased have been identified as Laxmi Khandu Waghmare 50, and Sayama Sahebrao Waghmare 15, while three-year-old Kartik Ganesh Waghmare was critically injured. The mis­h­ap took place on Powai Road No. 17 opposite Hotel Timbuktu.

Eyewitnesses said two women and a boy were sleeping under the oil tanker (bearing registration number MH 04 HS 1369), which was parked parallel to road. Around 9.30pm, the driver of another tanker (MH 04 GR 2369) lost control while parking his vehicle and dashed the oil tanker under which the three were sleeping from the rear.

After the incident, the three victims were immediately rushed to the nearby Rajawadi hospital. The two women were declared dead while the toddler’s condition remained critical, said police. The accused tanker driver fled the spot. Further investigations into the matter are under way, said a senior police official.
