Thane: Unaccounted cash, gold biscuits worth Rs 1.71 crore seized from railway passenger

The police said the jeweller, Ganesh Mondal, came from Lucknow by Pushpak Express with a heavy bag and his movements were suspicious. On checking his bag, they found a huge stash of cash and gold valuables.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Titwala station detained a businessman from Mumbai Zaveri Bazar on Saturday for possessing unaccounted Rs 56 lakh in cash and gold jewellery worth Rs 1.51 crore.

The police said the jeweller, Ganesh Mondal, came from Lucknow by Pushpak Express with a heavy bag and his movements were suspicious. On checking his bag, they found a huge stash of cash and gold valuables.

The police said they were shocked that he travelled from Lucknow without any security.

Mondal also gave evasive answers to questions posed by officers. They gave the information to Income Tax officials, who have seized both cash and jewellery from him.
