Thane: A 37-year-old man was arrested by the Thane crime branch Unit 1 for allegedly killing a Shiv Sena member from Badlapur. The accused, identified as Sagar Kamble was wanted in the case for the last six years.
Kamble was earlier arrested in another murder case in 2012. When he was later released on bail, he committed the crime along with three others in 2015, according to officials.
The police said Dada Saheb Patil, police constable based with Unit 1 of Thane crime branch received information about Kamble hiding in Unch village in Kolhapur district.
Accordingly, a team headed by Praful Jadhav, assistant police inspector, along with other staff reached Kolhapur. "He was arrested on October 12, from Indrajeet Colony, Maner Mala, Unch village, Kolhapur. He is from Kolhapur and was hiding in another village so that he couldn't be traced by the police. We have arrested him and handed him over to the Badlapur east police station. They are further investigating the matter," added Jadhav.
The Badlapur east police have arrested three people and Kamble was the fourth accused arrested.
In April 2015, a 42-year-old Keshav Mohite, an auto-rickshaw driver from Badlapur and a Shiv Sena party member was killed in broad daylight, while carrying three passengers in his auto-rickshaw from Badlapur station to Kharvai, MIDC in Badlapur.
One of the fares stabbed him at different parts of his body with a sharp weapon after which he was left severely injured. He was later shifted to a hospital where he was declared dead on arrival. A murder case was registered with Badlapur east police station regarding the same.
