Thane: The Thane district neighbouring Mumbai has recorded a whopping 300 per cent increase in the rainfall this year as compared to the last year, official sources said.
Since the onset of the monsoon season this year, the district received a total of 12,498.51 mm of rainfall till yesterday, district authorities said.
During the same period last year, 3,094 mm of rainfall was recorded.
This shows an increase of 300 per cent of rainfall this year so far as compared to the previous year, they said.
The average rainfall has also gone up from 206 mm to 833 mm this year, a report from the district headquarters stated.
Meanwhile, a team of leaders from Thane BJP unit yesterday submitted a memorandum to district collector P Velrasu in connection with the damage to crops sown due to heavy rains and sought immediate assistance for the affected farmers.
There was heavy downpour between June 22 and 25 this year and as compared to last year, the rains were very heavy and washed away the crops sown in the fields, the memorandum said.
Several acres of cultivable land in the remote tribal regions of Jawhar, Mokhada, Vikramgadh, Wada, Talasari, Dahanu and others were washed away in the rains, it mentioned.
The memorandum demanded that the district administration should immediately arrange to distribute seeds to the farmers.
