Mumbai: The state education department has issued new rules for students of the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education (ICSE) and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), whereby marks of best five subjects will be considered for the admissions to First Year Junior College (FYJC). The department claimed on Saturday, this will help facilitate a uniform platform for consideration of marks for admissions as compared to the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) board students. Students of ICSE and CBSE board have been informed, out of seven subjects, best five subjects will be considered while filling the online admission forms. A senior officer of the department said, "Marks of best of five subjects will be considered in Group I and II in the application forms.
Students can make changes to their application forms till July 4, as we have extended the admission process." This move has come into play so that students of SSC board have a fair chance to secure seats in FYJC, claimed the state education department. The officer said, "Students of SSC board have scored less compared to students of ICSE and CBSE board. There should be a fair platform for admissions so that all students are considered based on their merit." Students of ICSE and CBSE are angry with this decision of the state. Sheena Ansari, a student, said, "The state cannot change rules and make it difficult for us to secure seats at the last minute." While Kedar Mahadik, another student, said, "Why should we suffer because of SSC students? There has always been a difference of marks between students of the state and private boards." Following the extension of the FYJC admission process, the first merit list will be declared on July 12 at 6pm. Students can make changes to their part 1 and 2 of application forms and list their preference of colleges till July 4.
