Mumbai: Charkop Police arrested an aspiring singer and film producer on Sunday, for allegedly raping a 22-year-old MBA student on June 1. The woman had obtained the number of the duo from her female friend as she was seeking a break in the show-biz. She then received a call from the duo for an audition and when she went to their apartment for a meeting, they are alleged to have her drink, police said. The woman has claimed, she woke up 18 hours later to find herself naked. Shocked, she immediately clothed herself and rushed to the friend's house nearby, after which she approached police.
According to police sources, the woman had approached her friend, who works as a junior artist in a television serial. Her friend arranged a meeting with a local singer, Karan Vahi, and a film producer, M S Naagar, at their Charkop flat. The woman went to meet the duo on Saturday afternoon. "She was offered a drink by the two men, after which she became unconscious. Eighteen hours later, when she regained consciousness, she found herself lying naked, with scratches and bruises on her body," said a police officer.
Dazed, the woman went over to her friend's place and narrated her ordeal. Since the woman's friend had brought her in contact with the accused duo, she called Vahi and questioned him. "Vahi rebuffed all the allegations and afterwards, refused to take her calls. Following this, the woman approached Charkop Police and registered a First Information Report (FIR). We checked the CCTV camera footage, which corroborates the victim's claims," said police.
On the basis of the CCTV camera footage, where the victim was seen leaving the Charkop building 18 hours later, Vahi and Naagar were detained for questioning. During their interrogation, the duo confessed to stripping the woman but denied raping her. Police have arrested the duo, while the woman was sent to a civic hospital for medical examination. A senior police officer said, "Medical tests will ascertain rape. Accordingly, we will add on relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for gang rape."
