Mumbai :  As the railway stations are expected to swell with devotees coming down in huge number for the immersion of the most iconic Ganesh mandal of the city, Lalbaugcha Raja, Railway Protection Force (RPF) have geared up and will be on a look for trouble makers or pickpockets.  A special team formed of six constables each which will be deployed at stations looking out for miscreants.

The railway stations which are closer to the pandal such as Currey Road and Chinchpokli are the ones which are expected to be heavily crowded. Senior Divisional Commissioner of CR, Sachin Bhalode said, “There have been instances where petty crimes like pickpocketing have surged during such festivals. But we will ensure that this is not the case. Additional staff will be deployed and they will cover the stations area.” There will also be emphasis on security in the Anant Chaturdashi special trains which will leave the city following the festival season. A team will be deployed at Panvel and Roha both to keep an eye out for chain snatchers in these out bound trains. The staff will be permanently deployed at these stations which earlier were left unguarded. “There was staff crunch earlier with about 700 odd vacancies. But with the new recruits it has become possible,” added Bhalaode.

Over the past one week there have been two instance of chain snatching reported at Kurla and another one at Dadar.
