A total of 1,542 beggars and unauthorised hawkers were apprehended during the initiative. While 79 people were jailed, Rs 1.75 lakh was collected as fine from those prosecuted.
Mumbai : In a move to curb ticketless travelling among suburban passengers, the Western Railway (WR) carried out a massive drive and detected 1.67 lakh cases of ticketless travelling amongst other offences such as irregular travelling and unbooked luggage.
A total amount of Rs 5.97 crore was collected during the drive which is 2.6% more than the amount collected in the same month last year. During the drive, 22 cases of illegal transfer of reserved tickets were detected. A total amount of Rs 20,000 was collected through it.

Also, during this period, 192 checks were conducted against touts and other anti-social elements by the Commercial Department.
