Mumbai: After strong winds and a thunderstorm hit Central Railway’s train services, railway officials now feel the need to set up instruments to measure velocity of the wind. The strong winds damaged tracks as a huge tree collapsed at Cotton Green following which Harbour line was completely shut. There were no services between CST and Kurla for three hours while at Currey Road an asbestos sheet flew and hit the pantograph and overhead wires damaging power supply to local trains on the Central line. A senior official from CR said, “The wind above the speed of 80 km per hour is dangerous for overhead wires. These wires got damaged affecting the services on Tuesday.” The velocity of wind was recorded at 112 kmph on Tuesday. A warning of thunderstorms and heavy showers has been given by the meteorological department for the next 48 hours. -Staff Reporter
