Mumbai: The members of the general body meeting have unanimously disapproved the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation’s (BMC) proposal to disqualify the Nationalist Congress Party’s (NCP) Manisha Rahate from the post of corporator over the issue of unauthorised construction of her house. One Sunita Hande had filed a complaint on March 2, 2017, to the BMC Commissioner, Ajoy Mehta, against the NCP corporator Rahate for the unauthorised construction of her house, demanding action against her, leading to her disqualification from the post. The BMC in its initial inquiry had found Rahate guilty. The corporation had decided to take action against her for which it needed approval from the members of the general body meeting.
Rakhi Jadhav, group leader of Nationalist Congress Party stood firm in Rahate’s support. She said, “The administration is making baseless allegations against Rahate as her house was constructed before she was serving as a corporator and the notice which the BMC sent for the unauthorised construction under section 351 of the BMC Act was also not issued in her name. Then, how come she is at fault. And, the matter of the house is still pending in the city civil court.” Thus, the members of the general body meeting disapproved the disqualification of the NCP corporator.NCP’s Manisha Rahte had won the BMC election from Ward 119 in Vikhroli.
