Mumbai : Students taking a BEST bus to reach their schools can heave a sigh of relief as the cost of their school passes including those studying in private schools is all set to be reduced. The BEST management during the committee meeting conducted on Monday gave its nod to reduce the cost of the school bus passes including those going to private schools by 20 percent.
The Chairman of the BEST committee Arvind Dudhvadkar has also sent a letter to various authorities in BMC asking them to include the schools bus passes of those going to BMC schools as the items given free to these kids by the BMC. For those heading to private schools using any bus, the cost of the monthly pass will be reduced from Rs 1,000 for a yearly pass to Rs 900.
Kedar Hombalkar commenting on the differentiation on the cost of the passes depending on school said, “A kid who can afford to spend will opt for his school bus and not BEST. The BEST management should consider this fact before having different fares for those going to BMC schools to those of private. Giving school kids of private schools will not cost BEST more than a couple of lakh and should be done without hesitation.”
